Barnsley
Newspaper Book.
Barnsley or as they were originally known Barnsley St.Peters were established in 1887 and are a main-stay of the English Football League. Our commemorative book traces the club’s history through evocative newspaper reports and pictures and builds into a winning piece of memorabilia for the die-hard Tyke.
The Barnsley newspaper book present knits together the local derby matches and the victories against the southern ‘city boys’ like Chelsea. Indeed reports are included which recall two wins, away, against the mighty Chelsea in the eighties, 2:1 and 3:0.
A true fan of Barnsley history will always respond to those half forgotten stories when the going was tough for this club as it fought its way to become part of the Championship at the end of the 2005/06 season.
What better way is there of evoking memories for the faithful of Oakwell? From the FA Cup victory of 1912 to the Play-Off final of 2006 this unusual and unique gift covers the tribulations and the glory of following this tenacious club from South Yorkshire.
Barnsley has been a member of the Football League since 1898 and has survived many threats including being placed in the hands of the administrators in 2002 and been involved in some minor historic moments like taking part in the last play-off final at the old Wembley This is a wonderful gift idea for the all-time fan.
Our club history books are hand-made by a collection of craftsmen and women at in the west of Scotland. Each Barnsley Newspaper Book can have the recipient’s name and a greeting added to the first page for free. It’s this personaliseation that makes this a unique souvenir gift for a fan of the Reds.
Other notable interludes in this Barnsley history book present are covered in behind the scene stories such as in 1953 when sitting at the bottom of the Second Division they had to sell off their prolific goal scorer, Tommy Taylor and Eddie McMorran for £40,000. Tommy went to Manchester United where he won two league titles before losing his life in the Munich air disaster.
We hold an enormous archive of newspapers which we scan to make up these books and we update our Barnsley memorabilia book every year. This is a very special nostalgic gift for a rare and defiant club and makes the perfect present to add their collection of Barnsley souvenirs.
