More info on the Wimbledon FC Newspaper Book
Wimbledon FC began life as an amateur side called Wimbledon Old Centrals FC in 1889 and played on the common till 1912 when they moved to Plough Lane. The club had a rapid rise to the top flight of English League football in the 1970s and early 1980s before its controversial move to Milton Keynes in 2003. This commemorative personalised Wimbledon FC football book covers all the glory of this unique and controversial club from 1962 to 2004.
1975 was the pivotal year for Wimbledon FC and we capture their extended FA cup run with four pages of memorable reports involving the fans, backroom stories, and all the action from each match; a winning Wimbledon FC souvenir for the nostalgic fan. Wimbledon were the first non-league team to beat a First Division side and its own ground, Burnley FC in the third round of the FA Cup.
This special Wimbledon FC gift idea is packed with illuminating snippets of action, eyewitness accounts, and impressive press photography. 1983 and our Wimbledon FC history recounts the 1:1 draw with Halifax that took the club to an unbeaten run of twenty-one matches. The early days of the ‘Crazy Gang’ are recounted with stories like a 21 year old Vinny Jones scoring on his debut in 1986 and John Fashanu saying no to the big clubs and staying with Wimbledon in 1987.
1988 and this personalised Wimbledon football book covers ‘that’ FA Cup final win in all its glory with a special ‘pull-out’ and stories of celebration after the emotional and dramatic win over Liverpool.
The 1990s are remembered with a series of victories against the big names of the game including Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Spurs and West Ham. There’s also a full report of Vinnie Jones resigning from the club and returning from Chelsea for £700,000 in 1992 and being the last member of the FA Cup winning squad to leave the club in 1998 when he moved to QPR for £750,000.
2000 and our winning piece of Wimbledon FC memorabilia recalls the struggles of Joe Kinnear and his agony at watching Wimbledon fight for survival. The controversy of relocating to Milton Keynes, despite the fans’ protest, is handled in a report from 2002 and the first game, against Burnley, in their new guise is also reported in September 2003. The final game in our Wimbledon FC present is the 1:0 victory over Halifax.
