More info on the Hearts Newspaper Book
Hearts FC are thought to have been founded around 1874 and the local legend is that they were named after a popular dance hall which had taken its name from the novel ‘The Heart of Midlothian’ by Sir Walter Scott. The club moved to Tynecastle site in 1886. The club badge is based on the Heart of Midlothian Mosaic on the Royal Mile. Our Hearts gift book focuses on the club and its history from the 1920s to the present day. Notable victories, Scottish Cup runs, and the foray into Europe all gain significant coverage with eyewitness accounts, press photography and behind the scene stories. These stories and memories that they evoke make this the ultimate football present for the Hearts fan.
The 1930s and 1940s are reported as the personalised Hearts football book focuses on three games against Hibs that resulted in three victories to warm the heart of the Maroons fan. 1930 – 4:1, 1935 – 8:3, and 1949 – 5:2. Coverage from the 1950s covers a clutch of games against domestic competition and a heard fought European Cup game against Standard Liege. The domestic games feature a wonderful 6:2 victory against Motherwell to gain a semi-final place in the League Cup. All our reports add up to provide a unique Hearts history.
Into the 1960s and again this unique gift features three great victories against Hibs, a 6:3 victory over Aberdeen, and a 3:1 victory over Valerengen in the Fairs Club. The great Sandy Jardine (full name: William Pullar Jardine – ‘Sandy’ was a nickname given because of his hair colour) who played 184 times for Hearts is given coverage for his 1,000th senior appearance. The 1980s wouldn’t be complete without a full report on the UEFA Cup quarter final, 1st leg victory over Bayern Munich. A winning piece of Hearts memorabilia to offer the true fan.
1998 and the epic victory over Rangers in the Tennants Scottish Cup Final is treated to three pages in this impressive Hearts football book present. We flash forward to 2006 and dedicate several pages to the penalty shoot out with Gretna to win the Scottish Cup for the seventh time. All in all this is a thrilling recount of this great Edinburgh club packed with historical and anecdotal gems; a winning Hearts souvenir.
