More info on the Reading Newspaper Book
Reading FC started in 1871. Their original name The ‘Biscuitmen’ stems from that trade in the town. A more refined name ‘The Royals’ came into common usage in the 1970s as the town is located in the Royal County of Berkshire. Our Reading commemorative book opens in 1912 with a 1:0 victory over Aston Villa in the FA Cup 2nd Round. Promotion to Division Two came in 1926 and an extended FA Cup run all the way to the semi-final in 1927 is given full coverage with match reports from victories against Portsmouth, Brentford, and Swansea. A wonderful evocation of a team’s struggle to build its reputation in the early years of the century builds into a rare treasure for a committed Reading fan and is the perfect Reading FC gift idea.
