More info on the Southampton FC Newspaper Book
Southampton FC was created in 1885 my members of the St Mary’s Church of England Young Men’s Association and they played their first games on the common land close to the church. The games were often interrupted by walkers roaming through the play insisting that they had the right to roam. The move to the Dell occurred in 1898 and the stadium was build for a vast sum £10,000. Our unique Southampton football gift relates the glory, the lows, and dram of this historic club.
1908 is when our Southampton FC history book starts with the 5:2 victory over QPR. This winning piece of Southampton memorabilia makes a great present as its pages reeks of the early days; buccaneering victories including an 8:0 victory over Northampton and an 8:2 victory over Blackpool in the late 1920s.
Our Southampton FC souvenir also records a curious run of 6:2 victories all in 1967 and against; West Ham, Aston Villa, and Chelsea. 1969 also records the club’s first foray into European competition and our Southampton commemorative book relates the club reaching the last 16 of the Fairs Cup with a 5:1 victory over Vitoria Gulmares.
The back page of this splendid book is given over to a hero of the Dell – Mick Channon and a hat-trick he scored in a 5:0 victory over Derby County, his re-signing of to the club in 1979, and the signing of another great goal scorer, Kevin Keegan. A memorable clutch of dramatic football moments add up to make this the ultimate Southampton football book gift to present to the ‘Saints’ fan in your life.
Southampton have certainly had some of the most notable managers in the game; Graeme Souness, Glenn Hoddle, and Gordon Strachan have held the reins at the Dell and all receive coverage in this hard to beat Southampton FC souvenir.
Other Southampton heroes also receive dedicated coverage, the signing of Alan Ball in 1976, the signing of Peter Shilton in 1982, and in 1987 a hat-trick from Matt Le Tissier is brought to life for a fan to relish!
