West Bromwich Albion FC started life in 1878 when the club was formed by workers from Salter’s Spring Works in West Bromwich. The team was originally known as the West Bromwich Strollers. The name change to Albion came about in 1880 when they became the first team to use this suffix. In 1880 West Brom became one of the founding twelve of the English Football League. In the 1950s West Brom earned the name ‘The Team of the Century’ for their brand of fluent forward play.
