Wolverhampton Wanderers FC started life as St Lukes in 1877 and was founded by pupils at St Lukes School in Blakenhall. The club merged with the local cricket and football club, ‘The Wanderers’ two years later, to become Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. Wolves were one of the original twelve founders of the English Football League in 1888 and finished in third place in their first season.
